Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9611, #9608-B, and #9619. All are AF-16's built by the American Locomotive Company in May of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower each, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. Partially visible at the left are a GG-1 and two modified P-5A electric locomotives.

In this context, this A-A set is pulling a mail-express train that's about to ascend the Allegheny Mountains on its way to Pittsburgh and points West. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #7164 and five more "Geeps" whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7149 was built in November of 1957. They have just passed under the 24th Street Bridge, and are now threading the interlocking on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West with a fully-loaded mineral train. The smoke plumes in the distance pinpoint the Brick Plant.

Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8661, #5841, and two more E-7's whose numbers are not recorded. #8661 is an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in January of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. #5841 is an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in August of 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They are pulling a passenger train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve, and are about to pass through one of the tunnels at Gallitzin on their way to Pittsburgh and points West. Visible in the foreground is the westbound connecting track to the New Portage Branch.

Sweetland. Here is a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken in Hyndman, Pennsylvania, in March of 1961. It was published originally in his (2000) book entitled "Pennsylvania Railroad Color Pictorial: Volume One ~ Altoona To New York City," page 57. Partial Caption: "'Ike' and 'Mike,' as they were later called, were pulling cars from the B&O interchange at Hyndman, Pa., in March 1961. The Baltimore & Ohio station in the background was situated along its main tracks." Prominent here (R to L) are PRR engines #5595 and #5597. Both are BS-7M switchers built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in May of 1950 and rated at 750 horsepower each. In this context, they're on their way back to Altoona ~ via Hollidaysburg ~ with the "Cumberland Local."
