PRR 4308, I-1SA, #4 of 5, 1956
Sweetland. Here is the fourth of five successive 35mm color slides of photos by David R. Sweetland that were taken near Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, on 26 August 1956. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4308 and another "Decapod" whose road number is not recorded. #4308 is an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during November of 1922, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in July of 1935, and retired in April of 1958 after 36 years of faithful service. In this context, they're hauling a fully-loaded mineral train.
