SLN 3, now symbolled DHT9 on Conrail, as it is now a D&H train, rolls west past the Owego station sign at Mc Master St behind, among other things, the B&M road slug set.

This BUOI showed while I was waiting for SLN 3 to roll west. It is passing the location of OG tower, where the DLW Ithaca Branch crossed the Erie main.

BUOI is crossing the Owego Creek bridge and approaching Owego as it makes for Binghamton and some set off and pick up work.

I went out to Owego to sit and wait for the action. Conrail local WEEL39 showed up, did its work, and headed back to Elmira. The partial building visible at far right is the ex Erie station.

I went out to Owego to sit and wait for whatever came along. This was one of my rewards, an eastbound with an Alco leading. Some days you win.

Tioga Cental RS1 #62 at Owego, NY

A westbound D&H train, with NYSW power now in charge, since Guilford put the D&H in bankruptcy and took all their power back to the B&M, rolls west at Owego as Conrail's WEEL 39 works down by the Ward & Van Scoy feed mill. NYSW SD's would become a common sight over the next several years.

The July 4 weekend found the Speno ballast cleaner tied up on the siding at Owego. This is the view from Erie St of the east end of the train.

This car on the west end of the Speno train looks like it came from the Milwaukee Road. Many cast off cars wound up in such service. Makes an interesting genealogy project to figure out where they came from, though some are easier to figure out than others.

Most of the photos on here are of the TC passenger trains. They also served a steel dealer and a gas storage facility, though that traffic was somewhat unpredictable. One of the freights is working at Owego, having returned from up on the line.

The Tioga Central freight has returned to Owego and is getting its cars in order for interchange. Nice to see an RS 1 powered freight at this late date.

Appropriate, considering its July 4 weekend. This excursion was coming back from Newark Valley behind ex Washington Terminal 47, still in its Amtrak colors.

Among the units Tioga Central acquired was this ex Washington Terminal RS 1. It is sublettered TTM, for Tioga Transportation Museum, but not yet in service.

When I moved to the Binghamton area in 1988, Tioga Central was running weekend trips to Newark Valley and a dinner train, as well as some gas cars to North Harford, all with a couple of ex Washington Terminal RS 1s and an S 2. RS 1 62 is heading up todays train.

An MEBU rolls through Owego on its way to Buffalo. Today we have D&H leaders, though NYSW tried to put one of their units in the lead whenever possible.

A new train added to handle the flood of APL stacks was TV 400, seen here approaching Miller Beach Rd in Owego. Thats the NY 17C overpass in the distance. Looks like track 2 is getting some new ties.

Conrail started a new schedule, TV 400, to accommodate the growth in APL containers. There were enough that they soon were running an extra section, here seen passing the Owego village sign along NY 17 C

An early October morning finds TV 301 heading west at Hiawatha Rd in Owego, passing signal 233-1, which wouod be removed when the new radio alarm detector was installed at Tioga Center a few years later. If you look closely, you can see the extra light below the main head. This light diplays "hot box" if the detector at Campville, MP 230, gets a hit on a hot axle, and would set the signal red. I only saw it happen once.

A UNG coal train for NYSEGs Goudy Generating station in Johnson City rolls through Owego behind a pair of GEs. Its rare these days to see coal(or much else) behind anything but 6 axle power, but in those days, Conrail and the D&H had no problem sending out a 10,000 ton coal train with 4 axle units, as this train shows. The Tioga Central yard is seen to the right of the lead unit, one of their Alcos peeking out at far right.

A pair of CNW units are working west on this TV 201 at Owego. It set off the detector at MP 230, which set the signal here(just out of sight to the left) red. The conductor is now going to check the train's 17 stack sets as they pull past the crossing.

A GP 35 leads this UNG coal train bound for Goudy Station in Johnson City.

There were still a good number of U23Bs around the system at this time, mostly running secondary assignments, such as this work train, though occasionally theyd get some big time action.

As noted, sometimes the U 23s would get a main line assignment, such as this XWB empty coal train going west from Johnson City, seen at MP 231 between Campville and Owego.
