Description:  At each station on the Northstar's route a black chain link fence seperates the north and southbound tracks. The sign on the fence in the foreground says it all. First Catch Here In Awhile!
Title:  First Catch Here In Awhile!
Description:  I had not railfanned in Long Lake itself for months; I just let the trains on the Wayzata sub roll by with only a casual glance now and then. Not so today: here we have two BNSF GE's toting a short string of heavy-duty industrial hoppers (only way I can describe 'em) through town as traffic flows on nearby Highway 12. Anybody know what they're hauling is called?

Stopped At "East 12 Spur"
Title:  Stopped At "East 12 Spur"
Description:  I swear, eastbounds stop for the signals on this stretch of the Wayzata sub often enough you might as well name it after the highway sign in the foreground. Today a pair of dash-nines are the ponies the engineer and conductor have at their disposal at the head end of a short general freight that unfolded like this -tank cars, covered hopper cars, three boxcars, then more covered hoppers and tank cars. Anybody know what the symbol of this train was?

The TC&W Main At Dusk
Title:  The TC&W Main At Dusk
Description:  What a differene a tripod makes! It didn't hurt that I deliberately chose this location due to the light at right which came from the Walgreens in downtown Chan. If only the Glencoe Turn had arrived at the time it had three days earlier (around 8:30 P.M.) I just might have got a shot worthy of O. Winston Link.

Benefits Of A Tripod: Take One
Title:  Benefits Of A Tripod: Take One
Description:  Here we glimpse the TC&W doing some switching work either building the Glencoe Turn or finishing up with the St. Paul Turn late in the afternoon of a gorgeous April day. Due to trees, brush, and nearby buildings I couldn't get any up-close shots of the units (their GP39-2s), so I ventured back to the Dominick Drive grade crossing (from which I'd first glimpsed them) and snapped the first of three shots with my camera set up on my tripod. Bridge is for Shady Oak Road.

Benefits Of A Tripod: Take Two
Title:  Benefits Of A Tripod: Take Two
Description:  At work either finishing up with the St. Paul Turn or building the Glencoe Turn, the TC&W is glimpsed at work from down by the Dominick Drive grade crossing. Bridge is for Shady Oak Road; park and beach is direct to the left of the covered hoppers. I like how I got the reflection against them from headlights of the GP39-2 duo the crew was using in the shots I took using maximum zoom with the camera on my handy tripod.

Tower E-14 Today
Title:  Tower E-14 Today
Description:  Once upon a time, a wooden tower once stood here designated E-14 which monitored the crossing of the Milwaukee Road and the Minneapolis & St. Louis. Today the tower and the Louie are gone, and the Milwaukee rails now belong to two railroads: Canadian Pacific (east of here) and Twin Cities & Western (west of here), though a sign still remains proclaiming "Tower E-14" to one and all. Anyone know what "Begin B.R.T." stands for? There's a sign that says "End B.R.T." down near the site of Bass Lake Yard, so I'm curious.

Frozen In Time
Title:  Frozen In Time
Description:  The venerable Milwaukee Road depot -now on its third railroad & owner- seems frozen in time on a cloudy Monday evening in late July. Note the absence of the stand-alone trailer that was parked next to it for a number of years.
