On a beautiful Friday afternoon I heard PO-3 ask for permission to leave Rigby with some propane tanks for Dead River in Westbrook. Not only was it a treat to see a train on the Cumberland Mills RT, but a six axle made it even better, being Pan Am's unique "snoot nose" unit; MEC 606. They are seen here crossing Congress St. just beyond the Portland Amtrak Station. This line is the first fev miles of the former MEC Mountain Division.
DJ-1 with MEC 606 switches cars at Danville Jct.
After dropping a few perlite hoppers for Maine Eastern, PO-2's power with MEC 606 - MEC 7609 throws the switch back to the controlled siding so they can head to the west end of the interchange and grab their westbound cars.
DJ-1 with MEC 606 uses the SLR main for headroom while switching cars at Danville Jct. POWA 615 will come up the PAR main momentarily.

PO-3 with MEC 606 hooks up to some empties at Dead River in Westbrook. They will pick up five empties from the unloading area as well as four more on the passing track behind me. They will spot the five loads they brought in from Rigby.
After switching Dead River in Westbrook PO-3 with MEC 606 heads back toward Rigby with ten empties. They would hold briefly near Thompson's Point Rd. for an Amtrak Extra to clear up.

POED with MEC 610 - MEC 601 - MEC 606 heads west from CPF-203 after meeting DO-1. They had a nice lashup of three blue six axles pulling a very short train.

Pan Am PO-2 with a rare six-axle lashup of MEC 606 - MEC 7609 crosses the diamond over the now unused portion of the St. Lawrence & Atlantic Berlin Sub. to Portland. MEC 606 is the only snoot nose SD40-2 owned by Pan Am and has been spending alot of time in District 1 recently since the C40-8's have taken over most of the freights west of Rigby.
