KCS Slug 4050  Contributor's Pick!
KCS road slug 4050 and a small mystery. The unit came out of EMD in 1947 as F3A 30A. It was supposdly rebuilt into a slug at Shreveport in mid 1983 for use in Texas. It's shown here two years prior to that with its fans and exhaust already missing as well as blanked cab windows and in need of nose paint. As far as I can tell it was in KC headed to Mid America Car, who would repaint it and remove the center porthole- a configuration it had in later yers.

Gary Everhart General Now that's just sad looking! With that much paint damage in front, makes me wonder if there had been a fire upfront. 12/26/2012 4:18:24 AM
