KCS Slug 4050 |
| Description: |
KCS road slug 4050 and a small mystery. The unit came out of EMD in 1947 as F3A 30A. It was supposdly rebuilt into a slug at Shreveport in mid 1983 for use in Texas. It's shown here two years prior to that with its fans and exhaust already missing as well as blanked cab windows and in need of nose paint. As far as I can tell it was in KC headed to Mid America Car, who would repaint it and remove the center porthole- a configuration it had in later yers. |

Kansas City Southern F3A slug 4050 was photographed at West Yard, just outside of New Orleans. This unit was originally passenger engine 30A, and was subsequently sold to the Kiamichi. KCS slugs were very common into New Orleans during the early 1980's. |

Train detour due to washout between Minden and Shreveport. Train had to go east on ICG and then runaround train to go west. It ran with a caboose on each end for convenience. Train is about to cross over the KCS mainline. |
