Missouri Pacific SD40 #3006 is in the middle of a lashup in the Lesperance Street Yard, St Louis, MO. Built by EMD in March of 1967 as MP 706, it was later renumbered MP 3006 followed by SP SD40-2 #8644 > UP SD40-2 #2720 > NREX SD40-2 #2720 > leased to CSX. It was still around in 2016 but may have been relegated to a scrap line by then. This is an L.R. Stiles color slide which is now in my collection.
Standing by the control tower at a St Louis yard is Missouri Pacific SD40 #3006 in its dark blue "Jenks" paint scheme and proudly wearing the "screaming eagle" logo. Originally built by EMD as Missouri Pacific SD40 #706, it was later renumbered MP 3006. It then went to the SP roster as SP SD40-2 #8644 > UP SD40-2 #2720 > NREX SD40-2 #2720 > leased to CSX. It was still around in 2016 but may have been relegated to a scrap line by then. This is an L.R. Stiles color slide which is now in my collection.
A Missouri Pacific freight rolls through Valmeyer, IL when it was still there. Mississippi River flooding inundated the town in 1993, virtually destroying it. When the flood waters returned in 1995, the town was re-located to higher ground nearby -- but away from the MP/UP mainline.
Missouri Pacific train YNL heads east over the New Orleans Public Belt towards its destination at the Louisville & Nashville's Gentilly Yard. YNL was a "designated chemical train" and almost all of its cars were either tank cars or covered hoppers. The locomotives are SD40's 3006 and 3045 with GP50 3516. At the location, between the Mississippi River levee on the left and Leake Avenue on the right, there were two NOPB tracks and two ICG tracks. In the distance on the right, a covered hopper is on the NOPB-New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board interchange.
