Illinois Central (IC) 9622 - EMD GP38-2

We decided to move south to the water tower crossing. CN once again made pretty quick work down by Bishop and were ready to head back north. IC 9622 was dropped off by M338 yesterday so it was nice to get a different unit up front on the local. Especially one that was short hood forward.

A CN local parallels W. Butte des Morts Beach Rd. as it heads northeast via former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI, on 3 Mar. '23. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016 (not Outagamie Co., where Stroebe was erroneously placed on this site)). This line was laid by the C&NW in 1861. The former SOO rails run parallel beyond the train, they were laid by the W&N in 1920.

A CN passes the station sign as it transitions from the former C&NW rails to the former SOO rails at Shawano Junction, Fox Crossing, Winnebago Co., WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016) on 29 Jan. '22. This spot used to be named Fox River Junction, after several segments of the original C&NW main line through Menasha and Neenah were removed and a turnout was installed here which allows the bypass of missing C&NW rails by using former SOO rails.

A pair of CN locals meet at Milepost 211 on former C&NW rails at Stroebe, WI, on 29 Jan. '22. The local on the left was headed for Appleton, Little Chute, and Kaukauna. The local on the right was headed back to Neenah after switching Appvion at Appleton.
