This Illinois Central freight train heads north passing the old station, used by Amtrak, in Kankakee, Illinois. Two C40-8W locomotives power the train. Canadian National bought twelve of these former Locomotive Management Service Leasing engines for their Illinois Central Subsidiary in 2001, sublettered “IC.” They are still in blue colors that LMS used. The engines were part of a Conrail order in 1990 and were built to Conrail specifications and colors. Conrail owned LMS. CN purchased Illinois Central Railroad in 1999. Photo taken October 2004. The last active ex-LMS "Blue Devil" trails out 4th in the consist. All the other Blue Devils have been sent to either scrap or are in storage. And miraculously, not only is it still active, but it also has PTC!
