CSX Railroad (CSX) 8727 - EMD SD60I

Upon the Conrail breakup in 1999, this Conrail SD70MAC was transferred to CSX as their #776. It was photographed by George W. Hamlin while still wearing the final Conrail paint scheme. The loco was built just 4 years earlier in April of 1998. Many CSX SD70MACs later have been rebuilt, overhauled, or refurbished at Huntington, WV shops for continued service. These locomotives are known for their AC traction motors, high-horsepower, and, in some cases, the Whisper Cab for noise reduction. The Whisper Cab feature consisted of rubber gaskets between the cab and the body.nose of the loco to improve ride and noise abatement.

Its a muggy summers day along Conrails Lehigh Line when a pair of ex-Conrail SD60Is storm east with a long and neat-looking intermodal train from South Philly. Upon arrival at South Kearny, NJ this train will be broken up and combined into several other CSX departures that will head north and west via Selkirk.

CSX 8727 leads a CSX SD70ACe on westbound BNSF auto train V BLUHYD1 03E (Blue Island, IL to Hauser Yard, ID) under the CB&Q signals in Rochelle. Talk about a great lashup!
