CSX 887 is on I-003 on track one in West Englewood, NJ 11/30/2024. This used to be the siding that switched off from the main at CP-7 and at one time extended to CP-13 in Dumont. In the 1980s, Conrail cut the siding back to New Bridge Road because the siding at that time had a speed of only 10mph. North of New Bridge Road, there are many grade crossings in Bergenfield and trains moving at 10mph would tie up the whole town. Today, I believe track one is now good for 40mph. I dont know if the siding could be considered a "controlled siding" at the time as there were no intermediate signals between CP-7 and CP-13. Even after Conrail cut the siding back to New Bridge Road, there were no intermediate signals on either the main or the siding as Conrail removed the 10 Automatic signal on the main as CP-10 was just right around the curve. First CSX added a middle siding and the original siding was called the east siding and of course the middle siding was called the middle siding. That all changed when CSX double tracked from CP-1 all the way up to CP-7 where the new track connected to the east siding. This became track 1 and the original main became track 2.

The coal train rolled slowly thought Watts, and I was able to get to the Illinois River crossing in time to get him on the bridge there. The water was calm, allowing this nice reflection shot.
The coal train passes a stand of trees that is not far off the colors of the diesels on the northbound. Color was better this year than its been in other years, though the oranges and dark reds are no match for the northeast.
The empty coal train rolls past a farm scene, the iconic view of steer in the pasture, and hay bales lined up for the winter.
The empty coal train roll north at Watts, the long sweeping curve yielding a long view of the stretched out train coming out of the sun.
The KCS crosses Baron Creek just south of Baron, and is easily viewed from adjacent US 59. Thats the vantage point for this shot of the empty TXUX train as it heads north in fading light. The lack of rain this year is apparent in the almost dry creek bed.
