I was heading south on US 54 where it crosses the Santa Fe, and knew I was just far enough ahead of this westbound to get the shot off the bridge. The timing was perfect, and I nailed it, as the train swung into view just as I got out of the van. Five units, including a way out of its lane Grinstein SD 70, lead a westbound into the sun past a long string of JB Hunt boxes on an eastbound.
A westbound stack train has a high green to roll on west, meeting an eastbound under the US 54 overpass.
Built May 1996. Here we see it working as a DPU on a loaded Scherer coal train.
The trailing unit is one of the 1000 SD70MACs BN acquired in the 90s for coal service. Many of them have now been displaced in that work by newer power, and have found their way into the general freight pool. This last unit is still(mostly) in its original paint, but the second unit, another Grinstein, is now in "Swoosh" paint. Hopefully this is a bodes well for its future!!
A northbound train for Kansas City holds back south of the OK 25 crossing at Narcissa. Hell meet a southbound here shortly.
After a 30 minute wait, the northbound rolls past a county road crossing just north of Narcissa with 46 cars in tow.
The southbound weve been waiting for approaches the northbound in the siding, holding back clear of the crossing.
After a long wait, K043 heads west by 58th Street at 1553.
K043 backs through Grays Ferry at 1443 with a pair of Executive MACs and an older GEVO for power.
With a new crew but nowhere to go. This empty oil train was held for hours in Broadford because of a brush fire about seven miles down the CSX rail line near Linden Hall. It looks sunny here but clouds were quickly moving in from the west as I took the photo. It was the last sun of the day.
The middle engine on an empty oil train stopped in Broadford.

An unidentified oil train runs east on CSX's Rochester-sub.
We went to this crew change point to get a few more shots of the DPU.
A nice executive SD70MAC is part of the DPU for this loaded SB corn syrup train.
Roster shot.

The Northtown to Madison died in the siding 7 miles to the south. So when that happens they bring the power back to Old Monroe.
