AMTK 282 leads the morning southbound Coast Starlight
Amtrak 282, 473, and 412 head a late Broadway Limited west
A train headed out the former Q to Quincy gets a roll on as it accelerates out of Union Station behind a then new F 40. There must be a turbo issue, as it is spewing an awful lot of smoke for a relatively new unit. It will take the curve at Halstead St, and its off to the smoky races.

Amtrak F40PHR 282 at Roosevelt Road in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in June 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The hogger is liklely blowing out his cylinders here as a slow situation is in front as this train approaches the bridge over the South Branch of the Chicago River.
Train 51, The Cardinal, heads for Chicago.
Westbound on CR

And is passing the trolley barn and first stop. The trolleys are stored as a park is built where the barn was.
As the engineer notches up the SB Coast Starlight which just departing King Street Station, the F40PHs blow out the soot accumtlated while idling in the station. The Kingdome was demolished in 2000.
Amtrak's southbound no. 11, the Coast Starlight, coasts to a stop at Salinas CA on an overcast Novermber day in 1985. Eleven cars trail the pair of F40s.
