2.16.2024 Charlottesville, VA> AMTK 148 leading the westbound Cardinal past signal post at 184.6, having departed CVS 2 minutes late. Much of the trackage from Charlottesville up the Blue Ridge Grade to Afton remains the jointed track put in place during the 1947-48 C&O upgrades to the Mountain Subdivision.

11.30.2022. Amtraks Cardinal train 5026 led by AMTK engine #148 passes though Mechums River late in the afternoon on the last day of November at the 192 milepost and signal running 20 minutes late into Charlottesville.
A green signal beckons the Coast Starlight north. Once the train has finished its Eugene stop, the train will depart the station and cross to the right-hand mainline. The crossover is just past the signals and the Lincoln Street railroad crossing. #14 is led by two P42DCs, numbers 10 and 148.
Running an hour late, the northbound Coast Starlight slinks into its Eugene station stop. The train comes off the single main track at the control point (red signals) in the background, and crosses onto the track closest to the platform. The train is led by P42DCs 10 and 148, General Electric units built in 1996 and 2001 respectively.
