CNW 4-2-0 "Pioneer" |
| Description: |
The Pioneer is ready for passenger service with a single coach. Depending on traffic needs, the Pioneer would often pull additional coaches and a baggage car. This photo is pulled from an article which appeared in the 2/14/53 "Capitol Times" newspaper from Madison, Wisconsin. My guess would be tha the photo is from the late 1850s or early 60s. This image is the best I could do with an old, yellowed newspaper clipping. |

LSMS 4-4-0 #529 - Lake Shore & Michigan Southern |
| Description: |
The photo is dated 9/10/1888 but entered here as 1900 since the site does not accept earlier dates. This photo, reprinted by W. R. Hicks possibly sometime in the 1940-50's, lists the builder as Grant Locomotive Works in 1881. The locomotive had 63" drivers, 17"x24" cylinders and generated 135 lbs psi boiler pressure. This information has not been confirmed. Interesting to note the engineer is posing for the photo and note also the huge dome just in front of the cab. Many 4-4-0's with this dome were rebuilt later with the boiler dome over the front drive axle. |

IC 4-8-2 #2411 - Illinois Central |
| Description: |
Nice photo from a direct scan of the original negative and it appears that it is newly delibered 4-8-2 Mountain type locomotive built by Alco-Schenectady in 1923. No date or location was given but with Mary Rae McPherson's help (see comment below), I now believe it was taken in Chicago, IL, possibly 27th Street. The date is possibly 1923 as it appears to be a newly delivered locomotive. Specs - class 2400, builder #64580, 73.5" drivers, impressive 225 psi boiler pressure, 24x28" cylinders, engine wt 362,500 lb, tractive effort of 57,120 lb. Unknown photographer. |

CBQ 2-6-2 #2121 - Chicago, Burlington & Quincy |
| Description: |
Fairly nice roster shot of Chicago, Burlington & Quincy 2-6-2 Prairie type loco #2121 idling in Chicago, IL before its next assignment. Alco-Brooks built this loco in November of 1906 (serial #41575, class R-5). It was a solid performer on the CBQ roster until retirement nearly 41 years later in April of 1947 and presumedly scrapped afterward. Specs - 69" drivers, 210 psi boiler pressure, 22x28" cylinders, engine wt of 217,000 lb and tractive force of 35,075 lb. No exact day in 1931 was listed for this photo now in my rr collection. The photo was taken by John W. Gaylord and is now part of my rr collection. |
