CO 4-8-4 #610 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Title:  CO 4-8-4 #610 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Description:  Lima built this sleek 4-8-4 "Greenbrier" type steam locomotive in June of 1948 as C&O #610. The C&O called the 4-8-4 configuration a "Greenbrier" rather than the more conventional "Northern" typle. The loco was part of a 5 unit purchase from Lima and was the last group of passenger steam locomotives built in the US. Unfortunately, the loco only lasted only into the early 1950's before being scrapped. This is a LIma builder's photo taken before it delivered the loco to the C&O Specs - serial #9302, J-3a class, 72" drivers (C&O changed to 74"), impressive 255 psi boiler pressure, 27.5x30" cylinders, engine wt of 482,200 lb and tractive effort with added booster was 78,850 lb.

BO 4-6-2 #5207 - Baltimore & Ohio
Title:  BO 4-6-2 #5207 - Baltimore & Ohio
Description:  Great roster shot of Baltimore & Ohio 4-6-2 Pacific #5207 waiting for the clear signal in Lima, OH, to head out with the passenger train on this day. Baldwin built this Pacific loco in June of 1919 as B&O #5207 (serial #51855, class P-5). It was rebuilt later with an increase to 210 psi boiler pressure from the original 200. After nearly 34 years of service, the loco was scrapped in September of 1953. No photographer was listed for this photo which is now part of my rr collection.

PRR 4-8-2 #6912
Title:  PRR 4-8-2 #6912
Description:  In an ironic twist, this 1926 Baldwin built Mountain-type locomotive is ouble heading through Lima,OH, the home of the competing Lima Locomotive Works. Bert Pennypacker's 2-part account of these exceptional Mountains in Trains magazine (Oct & Nov, 1979) when they entered service: "The engines ran superbly, were not difficult to fire, and were easy on coal and water. They steamed so well, in fact, that no engineman was ever known to have complained about low steam pressure. But they were dirty hogs to run ..." BTW, note the "strongarm" switch control rods in the foreground.A Max Miller photo.
