Second unit on an eastbound loaded 3-bay covered hopper grain unit train
The original plan was to leave after the last train. And we did, but then I noticed another eastbound train coming, so we went right back. I was too late for the lead power, but I was able to shoot the DPU, which was sadly inward facing this time.
UP 5573 leads a westbound loaded military train through Dagget
I will end up catching this one further south, a couple of hours later.

A sea of yellow: UP 1577 - UP 1820 - UP 5595 (etc) preparing to reverse around a huge loop, under, over, and back around with UP 7650, UP 5638 - UP 5568, UP 5203, etc.
Near lane is UP 8712 - UP **** - UP - UP 7669 - UP **** , middle lane UP 5595 - UP 5129 - UP 6710 - UP 8797 - UP 6530 - UP 6698, UP 8473 - ; in the far lane UP 7650, UP 5638 - UP 5568, UP 5203 - UP 26**, UP 7660, UP 6533 on the north side of the eastbound service lanes - the *east* hump yard (to the west, remember) stairs in the upper right corner of the frame. (Dang! I dont want to tell you how many frames I had to dig through to get those registry numbers - when the units are packed in tight like this, its not easy (although youd think after over 320 frames at the Golden Spike Tower overlooking Then Union Pacifics Bailey Yard Id get something... least youd think... until you toss that statistic up from them: 155 trains per day, 70 coal trains, 10,000 railroad cars every 24 hours, 8 miles, 985 switches (dang, and I thought I blew my turn-out budget), 2,850 acres over 8 miles long... and we spent less than 2 hours here... sorry, whining done.)
An unusual sight on CSX, a coal train with locomotive power from out west. Also all of the coal hoppers were from the west- CMO, CTRN, CNW, UP, etc. Train number was U811-13. I hope to see more of this in the future.

Union Pacific AC44CCTE #5595 trails on a huge 8-unit lashup leading a BNSF Z-train through Merced.
My first freight train sighting of 2014 is this huge (and colorful) 8-unit lashup leading a BNSF Z-train through Merced. Out in front is BNSF ES44DC #7618. This lashup also featured two UP units (AC44CCTE #5595 and SD70M #4984) and CSX ES44AH #3121!
