We made a trip to OKC and the Wichita Mountains NWA in mid July. In OKC, we stayed at the Omni, which was a nice hotel, and we had a great view from the 16th floor. The downside is, that the light is on the wrong side in the morning, so the view of the departing Heartland Flyer is dark side. So it goes....

Amtrak 167 glides into Salinas with the southbound Coast Starlight at 12:02 PM. 167 is running on time today, not always common for the Starlight. Salinas is the first stop after the crew change at San Jose. From here, busses can carry passengers west to Monterey. There is usually a 10-12 minute layover in Salinas for passengers to stretch their legs. 167 will be delayed for an additional 20 minutes here, departing at 12:35 PM. Note the Rio Grande hoppers on the right.
The southbound Coast Starlight glides into the Paso Robles station with P42 167 on the point. The train is running on former Southern Pacific rails, now owned by Union Pacific. With the rerouting of most freight traffic over the Central Valley lines via Bakersfield and Stockton, the Coast Starlight and a smttering of local freights are the only regularly scheduled train on the portion of the line between Gilroy and San Luis Obispo.
P42 54 leads the eastbound Cardinal through Thurmond, WV on an October Friday. The train is running over three hours late.

Sitting at the St Louis Amtrak Station, four head-ends poke out from beneath the overhead walkway. UP 8222 sits with a very late Texas Eagle #22, which it rescued after locomotive troubles hit AMTK 201 in east Texas. On the middle two tracks are Amtrak trains #314 & #304, the inbound Missouri River Runner and outbound Lincoln Service. And on the track closest to the camera is AMTK 54, which will replace UP 8222 on the Texas Eagle.
Sitting at the St Louis Amtrak Station, from left to right, are UP 8222 with the northbound Texas Eagle, AMTK 62 with Missouri River Runner 314, and AMTK 54, which will seplace UP 8222. The freight locomotive was placed on the Eagle after the train had locomotive troubles in east Texas and pulled it the rest of the way to St Louis.
