FM. Here is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide of a photo by Fred McLeod that was taken near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1949. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #3674, #5851, and an EP-20 "B" unit whose road number is not recorded. #3674 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1918 and retired in October of 1955. #5851 is an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in August of 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They're pulling a passenger train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where the steam locomotive will be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for further assignment. Wave to the Firemen! This photo comes from a B&W slide set entitled "Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania Railroad" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (22-25). |

| Description: |
Here is a postal card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Chicago Union Station Action." Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5851, an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in August of 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. Looks to me like it's a busy day in the Windy City! The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded. |
