PC MG Tower, 1968 |
| Description: |
WB. Here is an image of a photo by Jim Boyd that was taken near Allegrippus, Pennsylvania, in June of 1968. At the left is the Penn Central's MG Tower. It's located West of the Horseshoe Curve and controls the Mid-Grade interlocking on the Eastern Slope of the Allegheny Mountains. At the right is PC engine #4246 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #4246 was built as Pennsylvania Railroad number "5836" in February of 1951 and renumbered "4246" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. In this context, they're powering a passenger train past the Tower and up "The Mountain" to Gallitzin and points West. William E. Burket Collection. |
