BO 2-8-8-4 #657 - Baltimore & Ohio         
Built by Baldwin in the latter years of steam locomotive construction of 1944 was B&O 2-8-8-4 #657. Originally it was BO #7607 (serial #70069), it was renumbered in 1956 to make room for diesels on the roster. The massive locomotive was scrapped two years later in 1958. - Specs - EM-1 class, 64" drivers, impressive 235 psi boiler pressure, four 24x32" cylinders, massive engine weight of 628,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 115,000 lb. Unfortunately no location, date or photographer was given for this beautiful action shot.

Tom Beckett General These were massive engines, and commonly seen on Sand Patch in western PA. I don't think they were Yellowstones, though, perhaps Alleghenies, more appropriate to the territory. Yellowstones were either GN or NP-NP had a branch to the park-in keeping with their operating area. 1/28/2023 5:19:58 AM
