| With its bell ringing madly, this 1912 Alco-Schenectady 4-6-2 Frisco #1048 is either pulling into or out of a station. Original specs - serial #50561, class 1040, 69" drivers, 175 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 260,500 lb, tractive effort of 40,805 lb. Later the Frisco shops rebuilt them into oil burners with not much change in the tractive effort. The entire class was "dismissed from service" in the 13 months between 30 November 1950 and 27 December 1951. No location, date or photographer was listed for this photo. |
