SLSF 2-10-0 #1615 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Title:  SLSF 2-10-0 #1615 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Description:  This former Russian 2-10-0 Decapod was caught by F. W. Krambeck as it sits in the Kansas City, MO, yard. A note on the back of the photo states "On old KCFS&M transfer table." Part of the canceled Russian Decapod order due to the Russian Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. Most often these narrow, tall Decapods with small drivers were used for slow drag service. The loco (along with 1621, 1625, 1630, & 1632) was sold to the Eagle Picher Mining Company in October of 1951. In 1964, the loco then was donated to Altus, OK, where it still sits enclosed in a fence as a static display.

SLSF 4-6-0 #1404 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Title:  SLSF 4-6-0 #1404 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Description:  A fading original photo of the 1907 Burnham, Wms & Co built ten wheeler. According to www.steamlocomotives.com, "Very few engines were delivered with this particular combination of bore and stroke. Few Ten-wheelers had cylinders this big in any case, yet their 13" piston valves actuated by the still-rare Walschaert's gear seem well-sized to keep up with demand. The 1400s were never converted to oil burning, although their boilers were superheated" Unknown photographer

Title:  SLSF 4-4-0 #223 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Description:  This Alco-Rhode Island 4-4-0 steam locomotive built in 6/18/1903 as SLSF #223 looks like it has reached the storage/scrap line in its life. The serial number 27823 and build date of 6/18/1903 were written on the back of the photo. As yet, I can't confirm or revoke them as being accurate. Does anyone know either?

SLSF 4-6-2 #1026 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Title:  SLSF 4-6-2 #1026 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Description:  The fireman takes a moment to look toward the unidentified photographer has he is filling the water tank on the tender. This 4-6-2 Pacific was built by Baldwin in February of 1910. Sometime around 1938-39, the Frisco shops created a streamlined cowl to fit over the steam chest, thus giving the traditional loco a new, modern appearance. No date, location or photographer was listed for this photo.

SLSF 4-4-0 #94 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Title:  SLSF 4-4-0 #94 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Description:  Cooke Locomotive & Machine Works built this 4-4-0 as Kansas City Osceola & Southern Railway 10 and named "John J. Blair" in 1894 and was one of the smallest 8-wheelers ever built for American railroads. It was in the Frisco designated class 44 and had 60" drivers and developed only 155 psi boiler pressure. Even so, it was "dismissed from services" in 1934 after 41 years. This may be another handmade photo copied from an original print.

Title:  SLSF 4-6-0 #514 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Description:  Before a Frisco GP7 wore the number 514, this 4-6-0 did for the Frisco. According to one source, this loco was originally built by Alco-Pittsburgh in August 1893 as Kansas City Fort Scott & Memphis #154 (serial #1479), renumbered to SL-SF 514 in 1902. It appears to be in a storage or scrap line at Chaffee, MO. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Title:  SLSF 2-8-8-2 #2007 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:  This 1910 Alco built Chesapeake-type articulated loco had small 57" drivers and could generate 200 psi for its 24.5"x30" high pressure cylinders followed by its 39"x30" low pressure cylinders. The engine weight was 418,000 lb and it could produce a very respectable 77,018 lb. The Firsco Shops then superheated the class in 1918. Finally retired in April of 1931. No photographer was listed.

SLSF 4-6-0 #1406 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Title:  SLSF 4-6-0 #1406 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Description:  This is an unusual photo with several discrepancies. It appears to be in a storage/scrap line but the loco was still working in 1939. Second, the "Vanderbilt" tender was rarer on SLSF locos and suggests possibly that it was an oil burner but several sources state that this class was not an oil burner. Nevertheless, the loco was built by Burnham, Wms &Co in December of 1907 and after 40+ years was "dismissed from service" between March 1950 and November 1951. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Specs - serial #50553, class 1040, 69" drivers, 175 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 260,500 lb, tractive effort of 40,805 lb. Later the Frisco shops rebuilt them into oil burners with not much change in the tractive effort. The entire class was "dismissed from service" in the 13 months between 30 November 1950 and 27 December 1951. Unknown photographer.

Description:  This is a 1910 Baldwin built Pacific logo, a Frisco class 1015 member. It had 60" drivers and generated a modest 160 psi for its 26"x28" cylinders.
