"Pennsy's Pluperfect Pacifics," Page 54, 1957
Here is page three of a four-page article by Frederick Westing entitled "Pennsy's Pluperfect Pacifics." It was published originally in the September 1957 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 54. Photo Caption: "Homemade K-5 looked like a beefed-up K-4. Actually, No. 5698 owed her boiler dimensions to a Decapod and wore a cylinder saddle that would have done an M-1 proud. Positioning of bell under headlight was perhaps the most distinctive trait of both big Pacifics." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5698, a K-5 (4-6-2) "Pacific" build in Juniata during April of 1929 and retired in October of 1952 after 23 years of faithful service.
