Album Info:Here is a four-page article by Mr. Frederick Westing entitled "Pennsy's Pluperfect Pacifics." It was published originally in the September 1957 issue of "Trains" magazine, pages 52-55. "There is only so much you can expect of a Pacific, and Pennsy got that in the K-4. Then, in 1928, the road turned its back on the Hudson, bought instead a pair of super 4-6-2's. Which proved that bigger isn't always better." (Page 52) Also included is a duplicate 35mm B&W slide of this locomotive.

Title:  "Pennsy's Pluperfect Pacifics," Page 54, 1957
Description:  Here is page three of a four-page article by Frederick Westing entitled "Pennsy's Pluperfect Pacifics." It was published originally in the September 1957 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 54. Photo Caption: "Homemade K-5 looked like a beefed-up K-4. Actually, No. 5698 owed her boiler dimensions to a Decapod and wore a cylinder saddle that would have done an M-1 proud. Positioning of bell under headlight was perhaps the most distinctive trait of both big Pacifics." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5698, a K-5 (4-6-2) "Pacific" build in Juniata during April of 1929 and retired in October of 1952 after 23 years of faithful service.

Title:  "Pennsy's Pluperfect Pacifics," Page 55, 1957
Description:  Here is page four of a four-page article by Frederick Westing entitled "Pennsy's Pluperfect Pacifics." It was published originally in the September 1957 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 55. Photo Caption: "Baldwin delivered the 5699, the sister that incorporated Caprotti valve motion. Bereft of much reciprocating steel and possessed of a rahter top-heavy-looking front end, the Pacific from Eddystone acquired a racy, leaning-into-it look that shows in photo on page 53." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5699, a K-5 (4-6-2) "Pacific" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1929 and retired in September of 1953 after 24 years of faithful service. Included here is a three-place table comparing "Balance and Overbalance" between the two K-5's and a typical K-4S.
