| Altoona Action. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 13 July 1951. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5843 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. Both are EP-20's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5843 was constructed in August of 1947. They're passing under the 12th Street Footbridge, and are about to come to a stop both to change crews and discharge & pick-up passengers. Also visible are a westbound mixed-cargo freight train a couple of tracks over and portions of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. |
