T&P Train No. 22
Just before 7AM Texas & Pacific 4-6-2 712 was leading train 22 - the eastbound LOUISIANA EAGLE - over the New Orleans Public Belt near Jackson Avenue in New Orleans, as the train neared the end of its overnight trip from Fort Worth. The 712 had been built by Alco's Brooks Works in 1919 as a class P-1-a loco, and was upgraded with roller bearings, a larger tender and other improvements into a class P-1ar in 1936. The track on this side of the train was the NOPB switching lead, and next to it was a wharf track which served transit sheds along the Mississippi River. On the other side of the train were the NOPB's westbound main and two Illinois Central tracks, along with Tchoupitoulas Street. (approximate month and day)
