PRR E7A 4233 - Pennsylvania RR  Contributor's Pick!
Delivered as #5873, it was renumbered after PRR 2-10-0 was retired. A solid Pennsy stripe is clearly present on this unit but missing on the trailing unit. James LaRue has helped narrow the time and location (see comment below)

Fred Stuckmann General Delivered as 5873 in April 1949. The 4233 # was still running on PRR rails as a steamer in 1955, http://www.rwrightrr.com/photos/pv.asp?pid=128 so probably when the steamer retired, it's number was assigned to this unit. 1/31/2013 11:40:35 AM
Fred Stuckmann General It wore this # into Conrail too. 1/31/2013 11:43:32 AM
Robert Farkas General Great catch. As there is catenary in this photo, could this be Harrisburg or Enola instead of Altoona? 1/31/2013 2:18:31 PM
Alan Fricker General The second unit does not appear to have a stripe. 1/31/2013 8:00:42 PM
James LaRue General Hi Gary. That location is South Amboy, NJ. The engines are waiting for a GG1 powered train to arrive and then will take over for the run to Bay Head. Also with that single stripe (and no stripe on the second unit, as Alan pointed out) makes it likely this is from the Penn Central era, circa 1969-70 2/27/2013 12:53:40 PM
