Depicted here are the Pennsylvania Main Line Canal's boat basin facilities where canal boats were pulled out of or slipped back into the water. Note that the basin was 1,605 feet long and 120 feet wide, all of which had been excavated by men and mules!

Description:  Old Time PRR. Here is a photo of the Pennsylvania Railroad's Passenger Station in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, taken around 1873. It was located at the intersection of Bedford & Broad Streets. Also notable are the trees and HOLLY Tower in the distance. The westbound track is on the left, while the eastbound track is on the right. These wooden coaches are on the right track, which means that this train originated in Altoona and is heading toward either Petersburg or Bedford (i.e., East or South).

Here is a photo taken during the early 1900's from the middle of the westbound exit track in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, looking East toward the crossing at Jones & South Juniata Streets. Once upon a time, there were eastbound freights that came down the New Portage Branch, changed crews at Hollidaysburg, and then continued down the Petersburg Branch to points East. And once upon a time, there were westbound trains which came up the Petersburg Branch, changed crews at Hollidaysburg, and then continued up the New Portage Branch to points West. While in Hollidaysburg, some of these crews were housed in the two-storey building at the far left of this photo. Description:  Old Time PRR. Here is an enlarged view of a portion of the photo taken from atop the coaling wharf in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. Prominent here is PRR engine #1512, an H-3A (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built in the Altoona Machine Shops during 1892 and retired in May of 1915. [This data might be inaccurate.] It will soon be scrapped. In the early 1950's, a Reclamation Plant (aka scrap dock) was built in the southeastern portion of the Yard. William E Burket Collection.

All of them were built around 1903. Faintly visible in the middle-right distance is the clock tower atop the Blair County Court House.

Description:  Old Time PRR. Here is a track diagram of the yards in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, that was published by the Norfolk-Southern Railroad around 2001. Except for the space occupied by the Car Repair Shop (aka "Samuel Rea Shop"), the layout is very much the same as when the Yard was constructed by the Pennsylvania Railroad around 1903.
