BNSF 2537
Title:  BNSF 2537
Description:  BNSF 2537 last of the threesome at the front of a northbound mixed freight... now if the Sony had been facing these conditions (pouring rain) in last week’s shots, I could make some excuses - but I pack the broken Canon to church with me in an effort to keep as much crap out of the internal elements as possible - which this little Canon is packing half a pair of pants from the looks of it when you look down inside the lens groups... yet I swear, its still spitting out sharper images after more than five years of abuse than the brand new Sony is generating for me. Description:  BNSF 7795 - BNSF 6006 - BNSF 2537 triple-threat with northbound mixed freight... and good thing that little Geep is back there to help in this pouring rain. (Credit to Sir Matt Petersen for power correction on BNSF 2537 - thanks!)

Description:  BNSF 7795 lead unit of... hey, wait a minute... pouring rain or not, get a close look at the livery... not that I *told* you so, but I swear, thats a BNSNSF stencil on those panels... no, seriously - the NS in the middle is black. Ahem... pay up folks! (And yall thought I was a crack pot!)

BNSF 5199
Title:  BNSF 5199
Description:  BNSF 5199 as lead double waiting for assignment (or at least coupling) out in the north ladder - with part of an interesting UP-CP-UP-Unknown (CIT?) line-up in the background buried out in the passing lane - all hampered by terrible location for all of them buried way the heck up in the yard, darkness, rain, and a poor little pocket snapper sensor... and me still wondering about what the heck was at the front of the UP group that was passing through to the north and completely hidden among the mix of darkness, rain, and tunnel between all the other rail traffic.

KCS 4869
Title:  KCS 4869
Description:  KCS 4869 tailend of possibly a double pusher or awaiting northbound power duo buried in the yards... and what is it with darkness and cool and interesting things buried just out of sensor range? While trying to nab this shot, I believe a UP heritage unit shot through here along with something blue with large 2012 (?) livery emblazoned shooting north into the dark. Figures - but at least I almost got this little KCS unit on sensor, even if we did have to wander around through new and uncharted residential areas overlooking the north yard.

PNWR 2302
Title:  PNWR 2302
Description:  PNWR 2302 fourth for the trip south (likely first for the hop up here) and a little bashful behind the tree and a small puddle... because were behind on rainfall right now for December (! And November... yeah, go figure... yet were going to finish 2016 *over* normal rainfall, even after five months of drought this summer... gives you a little appreciation for what normal rain fall levels can be around these parts) - oh, the train, not the weather... its a southbound mixed freight.

BNSF 3929
Title:  BNSF 3929
Description:  BNSF 3929 on point with a northbound covered hopper double-header right before a friendly little toot - which was appreciated, although it was too cold out here in the freezing fog to wave by that point as I was scurrying back to the car where the heater remained on high to help defrost stubby little frozen fingers.

BNSF 7906
Title:  BNSF 7906
Description:  BNSF 7906 at the rear pushing a double-stack south... and caught on my way back home, fingers still frozen solid after being outside at the station for the past hour or more "playing with trains." Dang, seems like there should be a better, more sane and temperature controlled way to play with trains... if only someone would invent it... maybe scale it down, or something.

BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60 and pusher BNSF 6370
Title:  BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60 and pusher BNSF 6370
Description:  BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60 shuffling a mixed freight between middle yard, ducking under the 39th Street Over-Pass with pusher BNSF 6370 northbound covered hopper in the passing lane to get you better oriented to what I was trying to describe above (the under-the-over-pass position just barely visible behind BNSF 60 in the background). Speaking of backgrounds, yes, in the center distance is a grain ship being pushed into position or set to anchor out on the Columbia River - everything on the other side of the ship is Oregon. Additional "Oh" - the new turn-table continues to sit-and-soak up more rain... sort of sad to just see it with a single spur off the end & used only for turning power units instead of the grand old days of spokes and storage and round-house... although a shed would block the view from up here, so maybe not.

BNSF 4480
Title:  BNSF 4480
Description:  BNSF 4480 at second pulling position of the lead pair on this line of covered hoppers held up below the 39th Street bridge - and I while I have a better picture of the power, I thought this one had more local character and interest. (Oh, I think in my previous entry I was supposed to list all the positions this series was taken from: under the western end of the 39th Street Over-Pass, on the northeast BNSF spur road off to the north of the 39th Street Over Pass, and the blackberry bushes on the Lake Shore/Fruit Valley Road over-pass, with the early introductory shot from the west side of the bridge (where you can see the empty double stack snake away)... that should cover the major vantage points - just in case you wanted to put the dot on the local maps to replicate the shots... oh, and I guess I prowled around the top of the 39th Street Over Pass some, but, honestly, the wind up there is just nasty-cold, so I dont hang around long up there.)

BNSF 5890
Title:  BNSF 5890
Description:  BNSF 5890 leading a northbound oil can through the parking lot of various trains - and since I mentioned the under-the-over-pass position, heres the view to the southeast... a nice place to be during the rain, although the wind makes it so you often have to stand out in the open to stay dry (if that makes sense, since the rain is falling semi-horizontal not straight down).

BNSF 6197
Title:  BNSF 6197
Description:  BNSF 6197 placing second slot at the front of the fast-freight unit train of oil pipeline on rails with fake sun lighting up the clouds behind her... I resisted the urge to paint in a happy little smiling face sun - when it appears in the "Visit Vancouver" brochure, though, Im sure theyll have it in there along with a blue-sky wash (which if you havent seen the new Anthropics Landscape Pro software, its a little scary... check it out, they have a free demo and its just wrong. Super fun to play with, but you feel all dirty after using it (by the way, I was one of the original members of "Found View" long ago when there was a huge ("Yuge!") dust-up over "But its not *real*!" with the appearance of digital cameras for the masses and when "Photoshopped" was actually a dirty word (which is why I use PaintShop... well, actually because Im a cheap ___... but still.)

BNSF 6370
Title:  BNSF 6370
Description:  BNSF 6370 pusher behind a northbound line of covered hoppers paused in the new-old passing lane along Fruit Valley Road... and come to find out, not all covered hoppers through here are empties on the return-trip back to the northern route to our breadbasket... apparently we get a fair number of soybean trains running through here headed to Canada/"The Other" Vancouver (BC).

BNSF 6975 with BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60
Title:  BNSF 6975 with BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60
Description:  BNSF 6975 lead on empty double-stack well-car duo still held up with BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60 now visible in the north yard ladder having pulled their mixed freight through... the oilcan is actually still rumbling under foot in this snap because I got over here quicker than usual and the idle is more calm than normal... so the CREX shot above actually happens in another few seconds (chronological? Whats that? Oh - it has "logical" in the word. Nope, dont know nuthin bout that.)

BNSF 8046
Title:  BNSF 8046
Description:  BNSF 8046, at the front of a northbound duo with more covered hoppers, stopped nearly under the 39th Street over-pass in a close-stack directly on the tail of the northbound line of empty double-stack cars a hundred yards off her nose (BNSF 6975 group). (And with all the flipping/changing views, you get the idea I popped back-and-forth between several locations this particular morning, but when editing images, I work through them by how they first appear on sensor, even if they appear later - then the chosen shot is out of time sequence... unless you count the very FIRST appearance... well, unless Im trying to complete an entire train before moving on or an organizing view, or if youre still reading, "Gosh, its really sort of a random mish-mash depending on how little room I have in my short term memory in an effort to edit only one shot of each unit for posting, so whatever works as I bounce between CompuPic, PaintShopPro(4.1!), and this text file." There - Ive listed everything - *Now* can I deduct it from taxes?)

Description:  BNSF 8291 - BNSF 7678 at the front of that line of northbound covered hoppers with BNSF 6975 holding in the new passing/by-pass lane at the north end of the north ladder yard on well-car return duty - and it appears everyone is in "Hurry Up and Wait" mode. Title:  CREX 1429
Description:  CREX 1429 pusher on the oil can coasting north as she passes under the 39th Street Over Pass (just off her nose you can see the sloping road on the northeast side of the bridge where I take more pictures from as it provides access to the north yard). Speaking of oddities - sometimes (rarely) if they have a yellow or red, and you leave the car running, you can snap this picture, then...

UP 5546 - UP 9042 BNSF 8291 - BNSF 7678 BNSF 6975 - BNSF XXX, with local yard pair BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60
Title:  UP 5546 - UP 9042 BNSF 8291 - BNSF 7678 BNSF 6975 - BNSF XXX, with local yard pair BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60
Description:  UP 5546 enters the mess a half hour later... catching you up to speed... starting at the left, stopped in the old-new passing lane is the northbound covered hopper train ( BNSF 8291 - BNSF 7678 ), while UP 5546 - UP 9042 sound bound mixed freight charges hard into the mix, angry exhaust is from an unknown/unimaged coal-drag lead pair behind the red on the main line, while the northbound mixed freight "crew change" (in the Vanc Misc folder: BNSF 8160 - NS 9909 - BNSF 5965) is stopped in the wiggle onto the main choking down everything else (Im presuming crew change had to happen north of the yard (curving out of the frame to the port side / east of the approaching UP) because there was no way to get through the stopped northbound double-stack and northbound covered hopper group piled up all on the new by-pass tracks) - the tailend of the triple-header northbound mixed freight visible to the right of the frame, then comes the empty line of well-car duo BNSF 6975 - BNSF XXX, with local yard pair BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60 stuffed out at the end (light visible from BNSF 60). And I think that does it.

(And I think that does it for the eve of Christmas eve... dang, talk about confusing for an old guy having jumped back and forth for an hour or more through various spots around the north ladder yard.)

UP 7524
Title:  UP 7524
Description:  UP 7524, lone pusher on northbound double stack trying to sneak by as we were headed up the hill to church - where we dodged off and behind some homes on a side road to catch the last visible train in whats left of the supposed light of 2016... I guess not too bad for the new little Sony pocket snapper in a panning shot in the dark in an attempt to zoom down the hill and across the width of the north ladder yard. Happy New Year, everyone.
