| 7th Street. Here is an original telephoto view that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in March of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6001, #6304, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #6001 is an EF-25A built by GM-EMD in February of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower, while #6304 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower. In this context, they're serving as tail end pushers for a mixed-cargo freight train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignment. Photo taken from the 4th Street Footbridge, facing the 7th Street Bridge in the distance. |
