| 7th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 8 March 1964. Partially visible at the left is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #2022, a BF-16 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in May of 1952, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in January of 1967 after just 15 years of revenue service. It and two more "Sharks" are pulling an eastbound mixed-cargo freight train under the 7th Street Bridge and into the Altoona Yards. Partially visible at the right are PRR engines #7070 and #9766-B; they've stopped and await orders to pull a mixed-cargo freight train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |
