| Winter. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 3 January 1965. Prominent here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8607 and #8609. Both are APS-24MS's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 2,400 horsepower each; #8607 was built in December of 1955 while #8609 was built in January of 1956. They're serving as tail end helpers on a 57-car mixed-cargo freight train heading up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignment. Notable here is N-5C cabin car #477970. That's the 7th Street Bridge in the background. |
