GAINESVILLE TX June 4 1978 -- Santa Fe GP38 3540 sits at the engine facility awaiting assignment. EMD built the 3540 (b/n 36576) in August 1970. In July 1985 it was rebuilt as a GP38u and renumbered to ATSF 2340. On Sept 29 1998 it became BNSF 2230.
