| The caboose was originally built by the Wabash Shops in April of 1949 as WAB 2827. It was an all steel construction with the cupola offset by about 7 feet from centerline. There were no end windows, except for the window in the end doors. Each side had three windows originally, but with different arrangements. The unique feature is the streamlined, angled cupola similar to Pennsy N5C and N8 cabooses. After the merger into the NW roster, the group of cabooses were reclassified a C18 and renumbered this car as NW 56827 for pool use throughout the NW system. Again after mergers, the caboose ended up on the CSX roster. It was acquired by the Chesapeake RR Enthusiasts and refurbished in 2013 .It has served on tourist trains for the Chesepeake RR Enthusiast organization. It even served as a marriage platform for a local couple! No photographer was listed for the photo. |
