This beautiful San Francisco trolley was built in 1923 by Bethlehem Shipyards, is preserved in running condition at the Southern California Railway Museum (formerly Orange Empire Railway Museum) in Perris, CA. It is one of only two survivors from a group of 20 cars (169-188) that served various Muni lines, including the L-Taraval, for over 35 years until 1957–1959. It served various Muni lines, including the L-Taraval and M-Ocean View, for approximately 35 years until its retirement in 1958. Muni #171 was saved from being scrapped and, after being in poor condition, was fully restored by the museum. As of 2026, the car is undergoing a significant overhaul with expected completion this year. |
