| Southern Pacific yard switcher 0-8-0 #1304 was photographed near the end of its life as it sat in the scrap line at El Paso yard. It was built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) in November of 1901 originally as Southwestern RR of Arizona 2-8-0 #5 (serial #19674). It was absorbed by the El Paso & Southwestern as #53 in 1901 > in 1913 renumbered EP&SW #212 > in 1916 rebuilt to 0-8-0 and renumbered EP&SW #53 again > in 1924, became Southern Pacific 0-8-0 #1304 (class SE-2). In January of 1934, it was "vacated" and finally sent to the scrapper's torch in October of 1935 at El Paso, TX. The photo was taken by rail fan Ray Whitaker and is now in my rr collection. |
