| Here is a photo of Nickel Plate Road (NY, Chicago & St Louis) 4-6-4 Hudson #173 that was a common sight in Indiana in the 1950's. Alco-Schenectady built this beautiful 4-6-4 Hudson in February of 1927 as Nickel Plate Road #173. Its boiler pressure was bumped up from 215 psi to 225 psi in 1937, "elephant ear" smoke deflectors were added in May of 1946 and roller bearings added to engine truck in July of 1946. The loco's last run was June 1, 1958 between Calumet and Fort Wayne, IN. It was sold on 3/31/1961 to a Louisiana railroad mucsuem. Current status is umknown. The photo was taken by railfan Buckley. |
