NKP 6-8-2 #611 - Nickel Plate road
It's always fun as a Hoosier to post an Indiana-related railroad photo like this one and even better is the fact that it's a new loco for the RRPA database. Here is one fairly nice roster shot of a solid and powerful 2-8-2 Mikado sitting in the Frankfort, IN, yard. Built by Lima in 1920 as Nickel Plate Road (New York, Chicago & St Louis) 2-8-2 Mikado #611 (serial #6182, class H-6b), the loco served for nearly 35 years before being retired and sold for scrap to the Purdy & Company in August of 1955. In April of 1922, a booster was added that increased the tractive force to 64,100 lb. In January of 1926, air pumps were added to the pilot deck. Again in January of 1943, an improved trailer booster was added. Its last run was in August of 1953. No photographer was listed for this photo which is now in my collection.
