| Here's a great looking old timer serving as power for the toruist trains in Ely, Nevada. Alco-Pittsburgh built this 2-8-0 Consolidation type steam locomotive in January of 1909 as Nevada Northern #93 for copper ore service. The loco was a workhorse at the copper mines until being retired in 1961. After a period of static display, it was restored and began a second career leading excursion trains in 1993. A collision in 1995 led to further repairs and its participation in the 2002 Winter Olympics before resuming its current role at the Nevada Northern Railway Museum in Ely, Nevada. This is a color slide taken by rail fan Jim Lockart and now in my collection. |
