| Great roster shot of MILW 4-6-2 Pacific type #823 as it sat in the Vermillion, SD, yard, not knowing that it had about one more year of service before being retired.. Builrt by Alco-Brooks in June of 1912 originally as CMStP #3123 (serial #51346, class F-5), it was renumbered several times - in 1912 to CMStP 6723 > in 1923 to CMStP 6348 > in 1928, CMStPP 6348 > in July of1938 to MILW 823. After serviing the MIlwaukee Road for nearly 40 years, it was retired in December of 1952 and presumedly scrapped. Rebuilt specs - 73" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine wt of 253,000 lb and tractive force of 40,753 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo which is now in my collection. |
