Diner - ex ATSF 1495
Now in private hands being restored in the Birmingham area. The car was moved on its own wheels by NS.
Former ATSF diner #1495, and former Amtrak 8040, at Tifton GA. Car was built by Budd in 1942 as a 36 seat diner and later reconfigured to a 48 seater. The car is currently lettered for the "Tifton Terminal Railway" as are a couple of cabooses nearby. There are indications of restoration on this car but I do not know how far the restoration is intended to go. Static display?? Excursions?? Anyone know??
Sign in the diner being restored at Tifton GA indicates further work to be done. I am assuming from the sign that when completed the diner will be named "The Royal Palm" which obviously pays homage to the passenger train of the same name that passed thru Tifton on it's Midwest to Florida run. Anyone know if plans are to return the car to operable condition in excursion service or will it be a static display?

Finally...evidence of heritage of the diner now undergoing restoration at Tifton GA. Car is former ATSF 1495/Amtrak 8040. Built by Budd in 1942 as a 36 seat diner, later reconfigured to 48 seats. Thanks for Mike Woodruff for info concerning heritage of the car.
