"Silver Feather"
This car started life as Western Pacific dome coach #812 “Silver Feather,” built by Budd in 1948 for the famous California Zephyr.
A&M car 107, formerly LIRR 2927, is at the rear of the southbound train from Springdale. It will detrain and load wheelchair and other passengers for whom climbing steps to the car is inadvisable.
After we got off at Van Buren, we wanted to go back to one of the spots we saw from the train. In this case, it was a crossing of Frog Bayou a the town site of Lancaster.
With how much was cleared out, youd think that they would rebuild the town!
Cool guy.
Me and a few others got to get off at Van Buren for the day
On our way to Van Buren, ready for a straight week of Christmas trains...
Kinda wish they sandblasted that red paint instead of painted over it.
Stepping off.
Preparing to open up the vestibule.
On the way back, apparently the rain and wind was so strong that 62 actually hit a tree. Two of them.
We held a moment of silence that day, it was hauntingly beautiful out...
gotta access it somehow.
It's night at Van Buren. we left the train here for the night.
Since it was my birthday, I asked if I could take my grandparents to Van Buren. My boss not only let me, but she let them ride in our dome car, Silver Feather.
It seriously was an experience you cant replicate.
At the time of posting this, this was the only time Id ever been here.
We stopped briefely to pick up my partner Nick. The view is from car 108.
I dont like the new font they chose.
This man is especially important here at VB, in fact hes been with the A&M since the very beginning and helped rebuild it in 1987.
Another Christmas Train.
Safety first, blah blah blah.
We pride ourselves in our heritage.
Hey, SOMEONE has to document it.
An interior shot I suppose, our train was being rearranged so general maintenence could be performed on one of the cars in the shop.
Comparison between a car built in 1927 and one built in 1947. I might have gotten that wrong.
The other cars on todays train...
108 in the very early morning... I have to get up at 5 AM to help prep the train.
A&M 108 used to be auto-train 461 in a former life.
One of the many times I took a picture of it.
