LN 4-8-2 #400 - Louisville & Nashville |
| Description: |
Definitely a sad sight with this Baldwin 4-8-2 Light Mountain steam locomotive sitting in the scrap line waiting for the torch. Built in December of 1925, the massive and powerful loco was put to work hauling passengers. Barred by bridge loading limits from operating further south, the 4-8-2s later added Louisville-East St Louis trains and even freights. They saw out steam on the L & N, retiring in the mid-1950s. Specs - serial #58877, class L-1, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 333,100 lb, tractive effort of 53,883 lb. Max Miller photo |

The date was given as 6/9/1950 which might be incorrect or the renumbering took place in 1950 or it wore both numbers. | Description: |
Not my best work, but I decided to post scans of this FRISCO veteran which used to pull the Blue Bonnet Speci”l. The 1501 is on static display (now undercover) at Schuman Park in Rolla, MO. While I'm certain these were taken in June 1991, the exact date is approximate. |
