Some pool power on this eastbound Espee freight. Almost forty years later this view could be somewhat recreated using NS Heritage locomotives.
Conrail is a year old as this already repainted former EL unit works as pool power on an Espee freight in Southern California.
The train with the head end helpers passes the park at Horseshoe. Those were the days-an SD45, ex EL 3620, in the helper set, and an SD35 leading the train.
Sometimes, due to train make up, the helpers were put up front. Typically this happened with Trailvans, but some other trains got them as well. Here we see a TV train on its way uphill.
A pair of helpers makes their way back to Altoona for another westbound.
