NYS&W B40-8 #4048 at D&H E. Binghamton yd.
The NYSW excursion we saw at Kingley has reached Binghamton, and will momentarily cross the CR Southern Tier once it passes BD.
NYSW ran all kinds of excursions. Walter Rich was a railfan, and used the railroad to his advantage to show shippers the facilities, as well as running excursions. Not sure what this one was for. We see a pair of B 40s at the former DLW station at Kingsley, well hidden in the gray of morning fog.
This MEBU was yarded when it came in from the north, and is now getting out to go west to Buffalo.
BUME rolls past the now closed &H Bevier St yard office as it starts uphill to the tunnel.
One of the newer trains on the NYSW at this time was the K Line train, which ran as needed. The eastbound edition is rolling along Court St past BD late on this July afternoon
RPPY has pulled all the way down to Terrace Dr, where the power will cut off. The train will head south with CSX or NS power once its been classified. It's getting close to Balloon Rally time-note the hot air balloon above the leader.
RPPY rolls through the location known as BX, where the DLW crossed the D&H. Now its crossovers, and trains off the D&H can run onto the ex DLW to reach East Binghamton, which is the common route.
Now that OIBU has left town, BUME is taking the crossover and now the switch to the Buffalo Runner as it heads up to Bevier St and a crew change.
Seems it never rains but it pours. If theres one train, theres two. OIBU gets rolling west after working Binghamton, as BUME waits for it to clear so it can get up onto the Buffalo Runner, get a new crew, and head for its Guilford connection at Mechanicville.
A set of lite power goes west under the watchful eye of none other than JJ Young Jr. JJ was in typical form, no shirt and his ever present "bat barf" welders hat.
A set of the new B 40s starts MEBU west at QD. Once the new units came on line, it was a lot easier to find a solid set of yellowjackets on many trains.
This view from inside the big curve where the Tier goes under NY 14 at Horseheads shows off the new B 40s.
MEBU rolls west at Gibson with three of the new B40s.
BUME behind the highest numbered NYSW B 40 crosses over to the Buffalo Runner at QD
