Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5789 was built in November of 1952, while #5709 was built in September of 1952. Note the "AC Motor Stop" sign.

Pennsylvania Railroad E8 5789 at Englewood, on the south side of Chicago, Illinois, on April 11, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This locomotive was built in May 1952 (c/n 15654) on EMD Order 6354A, was later renumbered PRR 4249, retaining that number through PC and CR ownership.
