Grand Trunk Western (GTW) 5934 - EMD SD40-2

Elgin Joliet & Eastern EMD SD38-3 No. 657 unusually takes CN Local L521 back east long hood forward with SD40s GTW 5934 & IC 6253 in trail. The 5934 was offline from the 2 so it immediately raised eyebrows that the machine suffered a mechanical failure while en route earlier out of Kirk. Joliet IL, 2/25/26

It would have been cool to see this unit lead, considering I have shot the CN 5341 numerous times, but its cool to see it regardless!

For about a week prior to Dad and I coming up here, the CN Local based out of Battle Creek/South Bend had been using a pair of SD40-2 locomotives, one being in full IC Deathstar Paint, and the other being a GTW SD40-2, but in the CNA scheme. The local was planned to run to Kingsbury today, but unfortunately, the IC SD40-2 was plucked and put on the front of a stack train bound for Toronto. The unit that replaced it, however, was CN 5341, one of the cleanest zebra SD40-2W units on the roster (in my opinion), so we made it our goal to head to Kingsbury and shoot L521 headed back north to South Bend. When we got into Kingsbury, the train was just finishing up working the ethanol plant before tying back onto their cut to take back, which did allow us to get a few front/side shots of GTW 5934.
