OK. I'm totally in love! (Don't tell Natalie!). What a beautiful beast! Looks like a cross between a Draper Taper and an F40PH. The GMD SD40-2F is a 3,000 horsepower C-C diesel locomotive built by General Motors Diesel. It was fundamentally an SD40-2 in a cowl unit with full-width body. A total of 25 units were built solely for the Canadian Pacific Railway. They were delivered in 1988 and 1989, after the end of production of the regular SD40-2.
BOOM!! How cool is that? It's even got what looks like a 'Draper Taper' contour behind the cab. And 'TrainMaster' like wraparound rear air grills assemblage!
Way further west from where the switcher was working I came across what I thought was a resting locomotive set. But within minutes the engines perked up, and I was treated to some fine action in brilliant sunshine. Special treat was the third locomotive - a dazzling red SD40-2F rebuild. WOW!
Another shot of the fresh CP 9014
Freshly repainted CP unit, CP 9014 was sold to CMQ and then CMQ was acquired by CP and CP 9014 once again was in CPs possession
This loco, part of the DRY-30y class built by EMD in November of 1988 sits in the SK yard in Buffalo, NY. When CP started clearing out this class, the loco was sold to Central Maine & Quebec Rwy around 2017 as their CMQ #9014. An unknown photographer took this photo.
413 goes first, with a red barn leading, then 268 behind a C39-8 at the south end of Bevier St
166 behine the usual set of 40s crosses the Susquehanna and is about to enter the yard
166 rolls past the soccer fields in West Endicott as it approaches the Page Av crossing.
413 rolls north through Bainbridge following a 14" snowfall the day before.
SD40 types?? Really?? This train has two that are interesting to CP fans. The middle unit is the obvious one, an SD40-2F "red barn". The lead unit is one of the six acquired from the KCS, repainted and renumbered in the 5400s. The trailing unit?? Just run of the mill 40-2. The train is coming off the Susquehanna River bridge and about to cross under Conklin Av and enter East Binghamton yard.
First time I ever encountered 5 locomotives in these parts - in a consist with 4 SD40s no less. CP Belleville Sub at Cherrywood.
CP 5939 - CP 9014 - CP 5867 - CP 9675 - CP 8223 - CP 3057 with 66 cars
CP 5939 - CP 9014 - CP 5867 - CP 9675 - CP 8223 - CP 3057 with 66 cars
I actually did use this as a Christmas card in 2002. A red barn leads train 413 over the high bridge at Harpursville the morning after a 14 inch snowfall. The two trailing units are former KCS power.
Power for EDMO heads toward the yard
Not long after arriving here, this eastbound CP Run-through shows up with some neat power on the point. I wanted to get to the other side of the tracks, but I couldn't.
